I would only recommend this reading this difficult book with someone else or in a book club， in order to discuss the many ideas and experiences presented by Valarie Kaur。 I found it valuable in exposing harassment， assaults， and murders of Muslims， or anyone suspected of being Muslim， such as brown people and Sikhs， particularly post 9/11。 As we think about commemorating the 20th anniversary of 9/11， this aspect is worth remembering as well。 I learned much more about the Sikh people （very valuab I would only recommend this reading this difficult book with someone else or in a book club， in order to discuss the many ideas and experiences presented by Valarie Kaur。 I found it valuable in exposing harassment， assaults， and murders of Muslims， or anyone suspected of being Muslim， such as brown people and Sikhs， particularly post 9/11。 As we think about commemorating the 20th anniversary of 9/11， this aspect is worth remembering as well。 I learned much more about the Sikh people （very valuable）， and possibly more than I needed to know about Valarie Kaur。 There is so much packed into this book: history， memoir， spiritual concepts， and an approach to interacting with and thinking about other groups， especially those we consider our opponents。 The first and last of these was most valuable to me。 I commend Valarie Kaur for her passion for justice for all。 。。。more

You have to read this memoir！ So impactful！ I’d especially recommend audible， as Valarie reads the books and her singing and pronunciation would be lost in the book - though I had to keep cross referencing to get the quotes down。 Best book I’ve read all year！

Overall， this is a good， important book。 I found the memoir aspect of the book the most interesting， and I learned a lot about Sikhism and the struggles Sikhs have faced since 9/11。 The message is also good， but it gets repetitive。
